Vogue asked top American designers to name the people they consider icons of American fashion. California fashion designer Derek Lam chose Roc Nation star Willow Smith.

Lam said, “Naturally talented, charismatic, unblemished optimism, with the whole wide world open to her possibilities and abilities. I think she is the future-forward American icon.”

We couldn’t agree more. Willow has garnered as much buzz for her catchy tunes as she has for her bold fashion. Young Smith is in posh company–Michelle Obama and Karlie Kloss are among the famous names designers picked as their current American style icons.

Any kid who has the confidence to rock Chuck Taylor pants (below) without blinking deserves some type of recognition.

And here’s Willow impersonating Ginger Spice. Hair could use more ginger, but still a respectable attempt.
