In case you haven’t heard, Adele has an album in stores. This week, the British Soul singer’s 21 LP continued to extend its lead as the year’s top-selling album in the US by establishing a new sales benchmark – it has sold 4 million copies.

21 was released on February 22nd and has sold over 4 million copies in the US to date while maintaining a position on the top 5 of the Billboard 200 for a groundbreaking 34 weeks. In fact, the album has sold more than the combined total’s of its nearest competitors for the 2011 bestseller title, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way and Lil Wayne’s Tha Carta IV, which have accumulated sales exceeding 1.85 million and 1.55 million copies, respectively.

While 21 occupied the #2 spot on the Billboard 200 this week with 111K units sold, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV also maintained a position in the top 10 at  #7 with 45K. Elsewhere, J. Cole’s Cole World: The Sideline Story slipped out of the top 10 in its third week after selling 33K copies for a new total of 305K.

Moreover, The Throne’s Watch The Throne inched closer to the 1 million mark with 22K units in sales this week and a new total of 975K after only 10 weeks. Finally, Beyonce’s 4 rested at #24 with another 15K sold, bringing its total sales figure to 849K copies.
