Kanye West is a beast. His sample game is unparalleled. He digs up your grandma’s favorite cuts and reconstructs them in ways unfamiliar to his peers. That smart approach to beatsmithing, coupled with his ability to “dookie on every song” he’s been on, helped make West the greatest producer-rapper combo of his generation.
Tracking his samples is no easy task, though. But it didn’t stop one fan from trying. The 10-minute video below is a whirlwind tour of West’s sampling history. As in, it highlights every Kanye West sample. Ever. Yes, that includes all four solo albums (see Watch the Throne samples here). The clip first plays the original tune, then it shows the exact spot where Ye sampled it on his own song, complete with annotations and actual footage. Genius.
