Photos from NYC Million Hoodie March in Honor of Trayvon Martin

What's the Word

Hundreds of New Yorkers marched took to the streets of Manhattan Wednesday night to protest the slaying of Florida teen Trayvon Martin. Martin, 17, was an unarmed black teenager shot to death by a neighborhood watch captain on Feb. 26.

Martin’s shooter, George Zimmerman, has not been charged. According to CBS New York, protestors were chanting “we want arrests” and “don’t kill our sons.” Martin’s parents were in New York conducting interviews when they found out about the protest. They joined the march and seized the opportunity to thank protestors for their support.

Most of the protestors wore hoodies in honor of Martin. A high school junior, Martin was wearing a hoodie when he was killed. He was returning from the convenience store after buying a bag of skittles. Zimmerman claimed that he acted in self defense.
