Wale is gearing up for one helluva show at the historic Howard Theatre. The MMG rapper will play the grand opening of the new Howard on April 9, and he’s bringing a go go band this time.

Washington Post‘s Lavanya Ramanathan, who was lucky enough to get a peek at the newly renovated spot, writes that it now sports “interior walls lined in warm black walnut, a basement outfitted with a state-of-the-art kitchen, and a balcony level just starting to see the installation of cozy banquettes.” Nice.

You can get a first look at the 102-year-old building on April 9. Also billed to perform in the first week of the grand reopening: Yasiin Bey (p/k/a Mos Def), Chaka Khan, Wanda Sykes,the Roots, and Bad Brains.
