Jay-Z’s 5 Most Iconic Fashion Trends
You know the story. It’s a real life rags-to-riches story of a young man who came from nothing and built an entire empire. Jay-Z has accomplished much in his four decades on this planet: he’s set bars with his music, broken records with his business deals and set some of the most iconic fashion trends in hip-hop. Here are five of Jay’s top fashion trends.

“I’m from the place where the church is the flakiest and n—-s been praying to God so long that they atheist.”
5. Fitted Yankee, Construction Timbs
From Day 1, Hov remained true to his breeding grounds — Brooklyn. He had no problem throwing his normal hood wear which came from his days of rocking the block all day and night. It’s one of the things that makes you love him and respect him at the same time. And for a young brown boy like me, who grew up around the corner from Jay, it made me feel comfortable being me.

“You know I stay, fresh to deatth I brought you from the projectsAnd I’m a take you to the top of the globe so let’s go!”
4. A Fresh Button UP
When Jay made the transition from baggy, oversized clothes to sensible button ups and a more fitted jean, he took the hood with him. Those who were not comfortable jumping into the skinny jean arena took after Jay the minute he declared, “30 was the new 20.”

“Blueprints in my white iPod, Black diamonds in my Jesus piece, My God,”
3. The Jesus Piece
The Notorious B.I.G. introduced us to it and Kanye ran with it, but Jay-Z put the Jesus Piece on the fashion map. Till this day, you’ll rarely catch Jay without one.

“Used to rock a throwback ballin on the corner, now I rock tailored suit lookin like a owner.”
2. Throwback Jerseys
My freshmen year of college was a pretty broke one, thanks to the fashion trendsetting antics of Sean Carter. During this time, Jay led the throwback revolution by showing up in countless baseball, basketball and football jerseys, reeking of vintage heritage and costing all of a minimum of $400 a pop. He was Jay-Z and his fashion word was gold in the hood. So I struggled for a year or two, supported by ramen noodles and prayers. But I was my fashion was on point, though!

1. The Tailored Suit
Today, Jay-Z highlights the fact that he is a walking businessman. His carefully tailored suits match his name, brand and mogul image perfectly. He looks like money in an unpretentious way, and that is a trend all in itself.
