Shawty Lo’s “Baby Mama” Show: A New Low for Oxygen

What's the Word

It reads like a Boondocks sketch: Shawty Lo and his 10 baby mamas get picked up for a reality show named “All My Babies’ Mamas.” Except it’s real. Very real. And not everyone is giddy about that.

The new Oxygen show is billed as a one-hour special on “the complicated lives of one man, his children’s mamas, and their army of children.” According to Deadline, the show was greenlighted by former MTV executives Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley.

The show is horrible in every sense — an example of frantic networks scrapping the barrel in a highly competitive marketplace. The only positive I can glean from this is Lo, maybe, bringing in a few extra bucks to help take care of his 11 kids. Still, the whole thing is hard to stomach, considering there are young kids being exploited for financial gain. As you might expect, this whole thing hasn’t gone down well with the Twitterverse, with most people expressing anger over the concept.

The folks at Oxygen have not confirmed the show, but people are already calling for the network to scrap it before it airs. Rap Rehab dubbed it a “minstrel show.” There’s also a petition on Change.org demanding that Oxygen to nix the show.

Here’s the promo clip.
