No Hollywood director could’ve scripted a better ending. After four attempts, Juan Manuel Marquez Jr. finally scored his first victory against Pacquiao. But it wasn’t just a win. This one was the sweetest of the Mexican pugilist’s storied career.
Marquez stopped Pacquiao in the sixth round of a fight that was, up to that point, comfortably tucked in the Filipino’s pocket. Then, with just seconds left in the round, Pacquiao walked right into Marquez’s perfectly corkscrewed, brilliantly timed, forcefully placed right counter. Pacquiao fell face first and stayed down for several minutes.
