It’s extremely rare that the President of the United States shows emotion in public. That’s even rarer in the case of President Barack Obama, who’s typically stoic when addressing the nation. Today, the occasion was (understandably) too heavy for the POTUS. So he did what anyone with a fully functioning heart would do. The President broke down.

Today, Obama addressed the nation on the horrific school shooting in Newton, Connecticut. The massacre claimed 27 lives, 20 of them children between the ages of 5 and 10. Obama spoke to the nation not just as its leader but as a parent, as a human being.

Please take a moment to say a prayer for the families of those poor children who had their innocence snuffed out of them, as well as the survivors. We can’t even imagine what those families are experiencing right now.
