Jay-Z's 1st single hit the radio this past Friday on Hot97 with DJ Funk Master Flex bangin' it through the airwaves! Soon after the "wildfire" began across the web and radios everywhere and had hip hop heads bopping their heads to "D.O.A"! You heard the track, you know what it surrounds, so what does Hip Hop mean to you? We want to know how Roc4Lifer's feel about the state of rap music and what needs to be done to repair it. One thing for sure, "Nah Nah Nah Nah, Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey, Good Bye!" is ringing in everyone's brain!
Check out what Jay-Z had to say about what the song means:
IT MEANS THAT HE WANT REAL HIP-HOP BACK. THE MAN SAID 'THE RAP YA'LL MAKIN GONNA MAKE IT THE GREAT DEPRESSION'. I GOT A COUPLE QUESTIONS WHO IS THIS FOR I MEAN NAME THESE ARTIST CAUSE IT MAY TAKE ALL DAY. THE LABELS PUSHIN DA BS SO YOU SHOULD GO AT DEM TOO. WE AIN'T JUS SIMPLE WE COMPLEX. WAT UP NAS. R4L
To me, Hip-Hop means voice and expression are made to speak for themselves. That includes choice, and free will...there is a difference. The days of rap battles over actual violence to settle disputes were at one point very real, with pride and a trigger left up to the audience (metaphorically). Hip-Hop vents, Hip-Hop changes, and Hip-Hop thinks (intelligently). One mic carries the same weight as the most dangerous of weapons...the human voice. Unlike other weapons, a voice can build infinitely more than it can destroy.
