In a surprising appearance on ABC's "The View", rapper Lil Wayne came on [April 24] to discuss everything from drug addiction, his new educational pursuits, grillz and to his latest album release, Rebirth.
“I started taking psychology classes at the University of Houston and I was actually going there physically, but that kind of got out of control so I switched to the University of Phoenix online.”, the southern artist told the ladies of "The View". “I went back to school for my mom,” he continued, “because she actually took me out of school to pursue my career and it wasn’t even my idea… It was her idea and it was also her idea [for me] to not rap. So that was her showing me her effort that she’s behind me. So I got my tutor and I got my GED in like a month.”
When confronted by host Elizabeth Hasselbeck on his current drug use, by asking specifically if he has a dependence on substances like prescription cough medicine and marijuana, Wayne responded, “I depend on God and motivation and I don’t depend on cough syrup and marijuana. No, I never have. In terms of smoking, I love to smoke, yes.”, he continued as the audience applauded.
Lil Wayne appeared on the show as promotion the new album, due out next summer and performed the first single, "Prom Queen".
Although reports have dubbed Rebirth as a rock album, Wayne has stressed that the release is just a reflection of his current inspirations and where he is today.
