As the times continue to change, we are watching history before our eyes. In the wake of President Obama lifting the Cuban Embargo, travel to the country has changed. Instead of island hopping or flying from another location, direct flights are now available. Jet Blue started its direct flight service to Havana, Cuba from New York City.
The inaugural flight took off yesterday morning from JFK Airport and arrived at José Martí International Airport in Havana, Cuba later that afternoon. The flight comes on the heels of the announcement of the passing of Fidel Castro. There hasn’t been a flight to Cuba from JFK in 50 years. The efforts to repair the relationship between the United States and Cuba will hopefully continue. That all depends on the agenda of the new President Elect.
Jet Blue is not the only airline offering travel to Cuba. American Airlines and Southwest Airlines are offering flights as well. In December, Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines will follow suit. Traveling to Cuba should be on everybody’s bucket list. Aside from the delicious rum and cigars, the country is literally frozen in time and its beauty is authentic. Take a weekend and do yourself a favor… Enjoy the beauty of the island that is Cuba.
