Kevin Durant Honors ‘Aunt Pearl’ With The Nike Zoom KD9

Kevin Durant has the ability to make an impression both on and off the court. Aside from his ball skills, he has a big heart for family. Kevin Durant and his Aunt Pearl had a very special relationship. They developed a bond from early, which started when he would go spend time with her in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Despite how we see him on the court, Durant was a shy kid and his Aunt Pearl knew exactly what to say and do to get him to shine. His Aunt Pearl passed away from lung cancer in 2009.

“I made a promise to myself to always honor my Aunt Pearl for the example she set, and the encouragement she gave me to follow my dreams,”

Nike announced that the Nike Zoom KD9 Aunt Pearl is slated to drop this Saturday, January 28th. This is the sixth ‘Aunt Pearl’ shoe to drop since the first pair released in 2012. This colorway features a black Flyknit upper with pink undertones. The Nike Swoosh logos, insole, and Zoom Air cushion are set in pink on black. There is a special pink ribbon on the heel tab and the KD logo on the heel is accented with a special graphic.

The shoe was originally designed as a tribute to his aunt who passed away from lung cancer in 2009. All of the proceeds from this shoe will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Nike Zoom KD9 Aunt Pearl will be available via the SNKRS app and Nike.com on January 28, 2017. Click the gallery above to see detail shots of the shoe.
