Making a summer bucket list should be on everybody’s agenda. New York City is a great place in the summertime and making sure to take full advantage is key. Planning activities for summer should include everything from checking out the local pool to kicking back for a rooftop gathering. Parks are a popular spot in the summer and there are quite a few in every borough. Swale offers up a floating park that is the first and only one of its kind in New York City.
The floating park is situated on an 80-foot-long barge that grows its greenery using filtered water from the New York Harbor waterway. Last year’s floating barge was home to a variety of plants, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Visitors have free access to the fresh produce on the floating park and can participate in a variety of programs and services. Last year, a variety of herbs, asparagus, swiss chard, and fruit trees were available for picking and eating. This year, Swale teamed up with British company Strongbow to design a more updated version of the floating park. This year’s park will be stocked with an apple orchard and a perennial garden with a variety of fruits, veggies, and herbs.
Word on the street is the park will set sail some time next month and will be available until the Fall. Locations aren’t set in stone but they will include piers throughout NYC. Check here for the floating schedule and locations.
