The unofficial official start to summer is happening in just a few weeks. Memorial Day weekend is a big weekend that signals the start to summer. The beaches open, the grills start grillin’, and everybody starts to move on Summer time. New York City is always a great place to spend Memorial Day Weekend. Most people lose sight of the true meaning of the weekend…honoring those men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country. They paid with their life with their service to keep us safe and for that we are grateful.
For the people who kick back in the Big Apple, there are mad things to get into. Whether its heading to the local beach via NYC Ferry or taking in a trip to the Intrepid Museum, there are quite a few things to do. We took a look around and put together a few fun things for your list of activities for Memorial Day Weekend. Gather up the crew and make memories in NYC for Memorial Day Weekend.
Fleet Week, a week long celebration honoring members of the armed services, kicks off May 24th. It starts with a parade of ships through the Hudson River that starts a week of celebratory activities. Check here for specifics.
Coney Island, Manhattan, and Rockaway Beaches are all available for the taking. Pack up the fam or gather your friends and hit the sand and surf. The NYC Ferry now rides to Rockaway and other points around the city for the same price as a Metro swipe…and you won’t get stuck in a tunnel.
Pack a picnic and head to the park. Central Park, Astoria Park, and Prospect Park are all perfect for a day in the outdoors.
Planning a BBQ with friends and family is always a great way to make memories and spend time. Brooklyn Bridge Park and other parks around the 5 boroughs offer up use of the grill if you can secure a spot.
Hitting the newest restaurants, rooftop bars, and brunch spots is always a great way to spend the day. We recommend you hit these up all weekend.
